Thistles in winter 1 in the frame by Monika Frys-Żurek
This photograph is, for me, a very special pause in time - a moment in which nature reveals its quietest, yet most resilient side. This single thistle, wrapped in a delicate layer of frost, has always reminded me of a strength that needs no applause. Though it may appear fragile, it stands unwavering, even in the coldest seasons of the year.

The thistle, the national symbol of Scotland, has long fascinated me with its symbolism: independence, courage, and resistance in the face of adversity. In traditional folklore, it was also believed to possess protective qualities - to ward off what is harmful and attract what is good. In its winter form, it becomes even more metaphorical: it seems to fall still only to endure, quiet yet present.
In this photograph, I wanted to capture that silence - the gentle light, the calm spaces, and the subtle elegance that appears in nature when it slows down. I wanted the viewer to feel the breath of the winter landscape and the endurance that flows from the very form of the thistle.
