Grapevine by Monika Frys-Żurek
This painting was created on a 30 × 40 cm cotton canvas, executed in a mixed technique — beginning with a chiaroscuro sketch in white acrylic paint, followed by building up color through oil glazes. Light itself became my first tool of narration — in accordance with the principle of chiaroscuro, where the contrast between brightness and shadow gives forms depth and expression.
The work was presented at the exhibition “Chiaroscuro” (TCK, 1.03.2024), at a stage when the subject still existed primarily as light — covered with only a subtle layer of color. The painting is based on one of the photographs provided. Signed in the lower right corner. Unframed — intended for individual framing. Year of creation: 2024.

The painting was created using a mixed technique (acrylic and oil) on a 30 × 40 cm cotton canvas, between January and April 2024.
The composition, inspired by an original photograph, reflects the essence of the chiaroscuro technique — the Italian term for the contrast of light and shadow.
Light, built up with white acrylic paint, became the first stage of the work — before the entire surface was covered with glazing. The painting was one of my two works presented during the group exhibition “Chiaroscuro – Exhibition of Painting and Drawing by Participants of the Classical Artistic Techniques Group and the Life Drawing Course” at the OtwARTA Visual Arts Studio, TCK, on March 1, 2024.
Signed in the lower right corner. Protected with a matte varnish. The painting is sold unframed — intended for individual framing.
