Waterfall by Monika Frys-Żurek
Skógafoss – an Icelandic symphony of water, light, and air.
A frame captured at the moment when mist collides with the sun’s rays, painting a full rainbow at the foot of the waterfall. The vivid greens of moss, the deep blue of the sky, and the white of foaming water create an image that dazzles with the purity of its colors.

Skógafoss is one of those waterfalls where it’s hard to tell dream from reality. The roar of the water drowns out everything but the beating of your own heart, while the rising mist paints a rainbow in the air – so fleeting it can only be seen at the perfect moment.
In this photograph, I captured precisely that meeting point of the elements: masses of water plunging from above, the sun scattering droplets, and moss-covered rocks embracing the entire scene. The composition leads the eye from the dark, stony riverbank to the whiteness of the waterfall, and the contrast of intense colors highlights the purity of the Icelandic landscape. It is an image that lets you feel the chill of the mist and the power of nature, frozen in a single frame forever.
The photo was taken during my stay in this magical place in September 2023.
